How much cannabis can I possess at one time?
According to the Michigan Regulatory Agency (MRA), adults who are 21+ may possess up to 2.5 ounces (70 grams) of cannabis flower, and no more than 15 grams of cannabis concentrate in the state of Michigan.
Why Do I Get "Dry Mouth"?
Dry mouth or “cottonmouth” occurs due to the interaction of cannabinoids with our endocannabinoid system. The cannabinoid from the plant attaches to a receptor in the salivary glands and causes it to stop receiving messages from the nervous system which then causes a decrease in saliva secretion in our submandibular gland (SMG).
What is THCV?
THCV (tetrahydrocannabivarin) is a compound in the cannabis plant that is similar to THC in molecular structure but produces different effects. It suppresses appetite as opposed to stimulating it. It also may help with Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and panic attacks. Currently, THCV is often detected in small percentages only when testing most strains.
What is a cannabinoid?
A cannabinoid is a chemical compound found in the cannabis plant that is responsible for activating the body’s endocannabinoid system to induce psychoactive and/or therapeutic effects. Cannabinoids bind to special receptors called CB1 and CB2 receptors that can be found all throughout the body. Some common cannabinoids include THC, CBD, THCA, THCV, CBG, and CBN.
Who is John Sinclair?
John Sinclair was a poet and cannabis activist from Flint who was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 1969 following his arrest for the possession of just two joints. Only serving about three years of his harsh sentence, Sinclair was eventually released from prison after public outcry led by Beatles legend John Lennon. He has since relocated to the Netherlands, where he continues to advocate for cannabis and inspire cannabis brands, such as our Two Joints brand, which supports the Last Prisoner Project.
The Cannabis Plant
The cannabis plant is composed of three main compounds – cannabinoids, terpenoids, and flavonoids. Cannabinoids interact with our body’s endocannabinoid system to produce psychoactive and/or therapeutic effects, while terpenoids and flavonoids are both responsible for contributing to the plant’s aroma and flavor profiles.
What is THCA?
THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) is a compound found in live cannabis plants. This compound converts to what we know as THC once the plant begins to dry and the conversion is expedited through a process called decarboxylation. THCA is sometimes extracted and used for its beneficial properties which include anti-emetic, anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective and anti-proliferative.
Beer & Cannabis
Did you know that beer and cannabis are considered cousins in the plant kingdom? Cannabis and the hops found in beer both share similar chemical properties and belong to the Cannabaceae family, a plant family that is known for producing strong terpene flavors and aromas.
What is CBN?
Cannabinol (CBN) is one of 100 cannabinoids in a cannabis plant. It is moderately psychoactive without producing a THC type high. CBN and THC together is thought to be more of a sedative than either one on it’s own, therefore, CBN is often used as a sleep-aid. Other potential benefits include: antibacterial, neuroprotectant, anti-inflammatory and appetite stimulation.
How often should I change my bong water?
Bong water is notorious for growing bacteria if you leave it sitting out for too long. For the frequent cannabis consumer, we suggest changing your bong water every 1-2 days, this will make sure you don't develop any illnesses or infections from inhaling bad bacteria.
History of Cannabis as Medicine
Researchers believe that the medicinal use of cannabis dates back to somewhere around 2727 B.C., citing that a Chinese Emperor named Shen Nug was the very first person to incorporate the plant in a medicinal manner by mixing it into teas and creams.
Drug Testing In The Workplace Undergoing Changes
Many employers no longer test for cannabis in workplace drug testing programs. With the rise of cannabis legalization in recent years across the country, many companies including Amazon, Google, Apple, and Target have opted to no longer drug test potential candidates for cannabis, or eliminate drug testing programs in the workplace overall. P.S. We've never drug tested for employment at Skymint ;)
What is CBD?
CBD is a cannabinoid that is produced as a result of the decarboxylation of its precursor cannabinoid, CBDa. CBD does not induce psychoactive effects, but is rather known for therapeutic effects by helping to reduce inflammation, relieve nausea, or manage pain. Other potential benefits of CBD include: neuroprotective, anti-proliferative, and anticonvulsant.
The History of 4/20
In the 1970’s there was a group of teens in San Rafael, CA, who heard tale of an abandoned cannabis plant originally grown by a Coast Guard member who could no longer tend to it. They were provided with a treasure map that would supposedly lead them to this plant and everyday after school they met at 4:20 to smoke cannabis and search for that mysterious plant. It's unknown if they found the treasure.
Is Cannabis Stronger Today?
Cannabis today is generally much stronger than it was in the past. This is not due to the plant itself, but the cultivation of the plant. THC is the main component that produces the psychoactive effect (aka the high). In the 1990’s the average amount of THC found in cannabis was 4% and has more recently THC percentage can regularly be found at well over 20%.
What is CBG?
CBG is a nonpsychoactive cannabinoid that is produced as a result of its precursor cannabinoid, CBGa, being exposed to heat of UV light. Researchers have found that CBG increases levels of anandamide, an endocannabinoid that is known to boost dopamine levels in the brain and responsible for maintaining homeostasis within the body. Some potential benefits of CBG include: anti-proliferative, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, analgesic, and antifungal.
Cannabis & Coloring
Have you ever wondered why some cannabis strains appear to be green while other cannabis strains are purple-colored? This is because the color of a cannabis plant depends on the maturity level of the plant and can also be influenced by temperature changes.
The Endocannabinoid System
All animals, including vertebrates and invertebrates, have an endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system is activated when cannabinoids such as THC or CBD bind to specific receptors in the body called CB1 and CB2 receptors.
What causes the munchies?
Studies have shown that THC interacts with the ghrelin hormone which is secreted by the stomach and thought to increase appetite by influencing the body's energy balance. It communicates with the hypothalamus, alerting it when a metabolic efficiency increase is needed. (AKA it makes you hungry).
The history of Brownie Mary
Mary Jane Rathbun, also known as “Brownie Mary,” was a cannabis advocate and activist who was jailed several times after refusing to stop gifting cannabis-infused brownies to patients at the local hospital she worked at that were suffering from terminal illnesses
What causes "red eyes"
Researchers from McGill University’s Office for Science and Society recently concluded that cannabis use is associated with vasodilation, which may help to explain how cannabis contributes to the “red eyes” phenomenon. Vasodilation occurs as a result of the blood vessel walls in the body relaxing and widening to allow for an increase of blood flow.
What is meant by "The Entourage Effect"
When we consume cannabis we are also consuming cannabis plant compounds and each compound produces a different effect. Additionally, when those compounds we intake from cannabis interact with the compounds in our body, the cannabis plant compounds begin to change their behavior. This is considered the Entourage Effect and it is why the same exact strain of cannabis may affect people in different ways.
